“We want to go to RG Kar. My daughter worked and died there. We wish to stand with the protesting doctors at that place,” the victim’s father told the media.

Kolkata: The parents of the 31-year-old trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital are set to join the protesting doctors at the state-run facility on Wednesday, just a day before the Supreme Court hearing. The victim’s parents expressed their desire to support the students who have been advocating for justice.
“We want to go to RG Kar. My daughter worked and died there. We wish to stand with the protesting doctors at that place,”
the victim’s father told the media.
The protesting doctors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital believe that the parents’ decision to join them will strengthen their resolve to continue their fight. A protesting doctor stated that they will remain steadfast in supporting the victim’s family until justice is served.
Junior doctors have frequently visited the parents, offering them emotional support and keeping them informed about their ongoing movement for justice.
Additionally, the junior doctors have resumed their protest march to the Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar, demanding the resignation of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.
On Wednesday, a six-member special police team will be stationed at the protest site to ensure the safety of the victim’s family. This is in addition to the extra forces deployed around Shyambazar, considering the vandalism that occurred at RG Kar on August 14.
“We had earlier expressed our willingness to join the movement led by the students and doctors. These students are like our own children, and our family members will participate in the protest at RG Kar until justice is achieved,”
the father stated.
Referring to the Lalbazar Abhijan by the junior doctors, he added:
“We always support those who are protesting in the streets. We saw how they stayed out all night demanding justice. Eventually, they were able to meet the police commissioner, which I believe was a moral victory for them.” However, the father refrained from commenting on the demand for the CP’s resignation. “That’s not for us to decide. This is an administrative matter, and we don’t have much knowledge about it.”
Regarding Sandip Ghosh’s arrest, the victim’s mother remarked:
“He (Ghosh) has been arrested on corruption charges, which are unrelated to our daughter’s death. We want to see the CBI make progress in our daughter’s case.” The victim’s father added: “Our daughter was a victim of this corruption racket. But we need to see genuine progress in understanding why and how she was killed.”
When asked about the Aparajita Bill, the victim’s father said: “We don’t have much to say about it. We just want workplaces to be safer so that such incidents never happen again.”
