BREAKING | PIL Filed in Supreme Court Over Karnataka Honey Trap Scandal Involving 48 Judges, Ministers: CJI To Hear Tomorrow

NEW DELHI: A serious matter has come up in Karnataka, where a big controversy is going on related to a honey-trap scandal. This issue involves one senior minister and 48 other people, including politicians, MLAs, judges, and other netas.

Because of the seriousness of the matter, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has now been filed in the Supreme Court of India.

This PIL has been brought in front of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, who said that the case will be listed for hearing the next day (Mar 25).

This whole issue started when KN Rajanna, who is the Minister for Cooperation in the Congress government, stood up in the Karnataka State Assembly on March 20 and made a shocking statement. He said that he was the target of a “honey-trapping” plan.

According to him, a group of people tried to trap him, and not only him, but 47 other people from different political parties and even judges were also targeted.

Because of these serious claims, there was a lot of noise and fighting in the Assembly. Many members started demanding a full investigation. Due to strong protests from the opposition, especially BJP, 18 BJP MLAs were suspended from the Assembly for creating disturbance.

All this started on a Wednesday when KN Rajanna openly said in the Assembly that someone tried to trap him in a honey trap scheme. This big revelation came after BJP’s former minister V Sunil Kumar accused the Congress government of running something like a “honey trap factory.” Another BJP MLA, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, also claimed that a senior Congress leader was involved in this issue.

Now, many people are asking what a honey trap actually is.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, ‘honey trap’ or ‘honey trapping’ is-

“A strategy where an attractive person, often a woman, uses romantic or sexual relationships to gain information or influence from a target, potentially for political, monetary, or personal gain.”

After Rajanna made his statements, the Assembly was filled with chaos. BJP members became very angry. They went into the well of the House (an area near the Speaker’s chair) and started shouting for a judicial inquiry.

Rajanna didn’t stop with just his own story. He said this was happening to many others as well. He claimed that 48 other people had been honey-trapped, and some videos were also recorded.

“I am not alone; 48 others, including legislators, central leaders, and judges have been honey-trapped, and their obscene videos have been made,”

This made the issue even bigger. Rajanna asked for a full investigation. Hearing this, the Home Minister of Karnataka, G Parameshwara, said that a high-level probe will be conducted to find out the truth.

As this scandal became more serious, another minister, Satish Jarkiholi, who is the Public Works Minister of Karnataka, told the media that there were at least two failed attempts to honey trap a senior state minister.

He also said that there must be a proper police investigation to catch the people who are doing this and to give them strong punishment.

Rajanna also added that this whole thing is not just about embarrassing someone. He said that these honey trap plans are being made by political people who want to win elections and take revenge.

In his words, this is not just about blackmail. It is about using dirty tricks to play with people’s careers and personal life, only for selfish political reasons.

As this matter got more attention, many other leaders started to support Rajanna. Even Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that this is a serious issue and there should be an investigation.

Because of all this pressure, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah came forward and made a strong statement. He said that his government will not protect anyone involved in this honey trap case, no matter who they are.

He also promised that there will be a fair and full investigation. If someone is found guilty, strict action will be taken according to law.

But still, the opposition parties, especially the BJP, were not satisfied. They wanted a judicial inquiry instead of just a government probe.

R Ashoka, who is the Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka, gave a strong statement. He said that this honey trap matter is not just a small problem, but a big conspiracy to defame elected leaders and stop them from doing their work.

At the same time, Home Minister G Parameshwara and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar repeated that the investigation will start officially once Rajanna gives a written complaint.

When Parameshwara said that there will be a high-level inquiry, the reactions were mixed. The opposition said that the government is delaying things and action should be taken immediately. On the other hand, Congress leaders said that the inquiry should be done fairly and without bias.

This whole issue is now becoming one of the most talked-about political controversies in Karnataka. People are waiting to see what happens next-

  • Will the truth come out?
  • Will someone powerful be found guilty?

The matter is now in the hands of the Supreme Court, and the coming days will be very important.
