NEW DELHI: On Friday(31st May), Supreme Court judge Justice Hima Kohli has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Supreme Court Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee (GSICC).
The announcement, made on May 31 via the Supreme Court’s official website, highlighted the appointment of Justice BV Nagarathna as a member of the reconstituted twelve-member committee, alongside Justice Kohli. This move reflects the Court’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity in its internal mechanisms.
“The appointment of Justice Hima Kohli as the Chairperson of GSICC emphasizes our commitment to nurturing a Supreme Court environment that prioritizes gender sensitivity and inclusiveness,”
-stated a spokesperson for the judiciary.
The appointment was made in accordance with Clause 4(2) of the Gender Sensitisation and Sexual Harassment of Women at the Supreme Court of India (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Regulations, 2013, by the Chief Justice of India. This reaffirms the Court’s proactive approach towards addressing issues of sexual harassment and gender discrimination.
The reconstitution of the GSICC, through a meticulous selection process, ensures representation from various stakeholders, including court officials, lawyers, and other members. This diverse composition aims to facilitate comprehensive discussions and effective redressal of grievances related to gender-based discrimination and harassment.
“The GSICC serves an essential function in educating the public about gender-related issues and serving as a platform to address complaints of sexual harassment within the Supreme Court premises.”

Alongside Justice Kohli and Justice Nagarathna, the newly reconstituted GSICC comprises esteemed members from diverse backgrounds:

- Advocate Soumyajit Pani (representative of the Supreme Court Bar Association/SCBA)

- Madhu Chauhan (representative of the Supreme Court Bar Clerks’ Association)
- Shruti Pandey (Professor of Legal Practice at Jindal Global Law School)
