New Delhi: During a hearing in the Supreme Court on October 29, Justice Aravind Kumar read out a touching statement from a 13-year-old girl who is at the centre of a child custody case. The young girl expressed deep guilt about her parents’ ongoing dispute, saying,

“Mujhe lagta hai main hi reason hu sab conflict ke liye.”

After hearing the statement, Justice NV Anjaria remarked that the girl was only 13 years old but spoke with the maturity of an adult.

“The girl is 13 years old but has spoken like a 31-year-old,”

Justice Anjaria said, appreciating her emotional understanding. He added,

“So mature and sensitive.”

Justice Aravind Kumar agreed and responded by highlighting the importance of understanding child emotions in legal matters involving minors.

Justice Kumar observed during the hearing,

“This is why child psychology is so important,”

The emotional moment took place while the Bench, comprising Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice NV Anjaria, was hearing a related custody dispute.

The Court was also dealing with another matter involving an Israeli man who claimed to be the father of two Russian children found in a cave in Gokarna, Karnataka.

The Supreme Court, however, dismissed his plea, questioning his standing in the case. The Bench told him,

“You are an Israeli. What is your interest in India?”

The Court made it clear that there was no valid ground for the man to file such a petition in India and rejected his claim to the children.

The hearing reflected both the sensitivity required in child custody cases and the Supreme Court’s firm stance on jurisdictional and procedural matters.

While the girl’s heartfelt statement moved the Bench, the Justices also emphasized that emotional well-being and psychological care of children must be given high importance in custody battles.

The case once again underlines how India’s top court balances compassion with the rule of law, especially in sensitive family matters where the welfare of children remains the primary concern.
