New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah remarked on Wednesday that numerous individuals perceive the Supreme Court’s ruling granting interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case as a form of preferential treatment.

In an interview Shah emphasized that the verdict in this case not an ordinary judicial decree. He stated,

“The judgement in the case was not a routine judicial order.”

Shah asserted,

“The Supreme Court possesses the authority to interpret the law, and I am of the opinion that this is not an ordinary ruling. Many individuals in this nation perceive that special treatment has been granted.”

In response to a question regarding Kejriwal‘s involvement in campaigning for the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the Home Minister made a subtle comment aimed at the Delhi Chief Minister.

Shah stated,

“At present, he (Arvind Kejriwal) is embroiled in another matter (the alleged assault on Swati Maliwal by the CM’s aide). Let him resolve that first, and then we’ll see what unfolds.”

Dismissing Arvind Kejriwal’s assertions that the central government installed cameras in Tihar jail to monitor him, the Union Home Minister emphasized that the Tihar jail administration falls under the jurisdiction of the Delhi government.

Shah stated,

“Tihar is under their (Delhi government’s) control, not ours. They are consistently deceiving. The jail administration is under the Delhi government, under Kejriwal’s purview. It’s not under the Home Ministry.”

The Supreme Court, On May 10, granted interim bail to the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in a case related to alleged money laundering connected to Delhi’s excise policy. Following his arrest on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate, the Delhi Chief Minister had spent more than 50 days in Tihar Jail.

According to the court’s ruling, the bail is valid until June 1, and on June 2, Kejriwal required to surrender to the jail authorities. During this period, although the Delhi CM can participate in election campaigning, he is not allowed to attend his office as Chief Minister. In response to Arvind Kejriwal’s recent announcement of ten guarantees to the people, Amit Shah remarked that the AAP leader‘s statements should not be taken seriously, as the party only contesting 22 Lok Sabha seats.

The Home Minister queried,

“Let’s not take him too seriously; they (AAP) are only contesting 22 seats. Yet, he’s offering guarantees for the entire nation… pledging to waive off electricity bills, and so forth. You’re only vying for 22 seats, so where will your government emerge from?”

Addressing Kejriwal’s accusation regarding the BJP‘s potential leadership change post the 2024 election results, Amit Shah reiterated that PM Modi would continue to lead until 2029 and beyond.

He stated,

“Let me clarify once more, Modiji will lead until 2029. And Kejriwal ji, there’s no news of change for you. Even beyond 2029, Modiji remains our leader. We will contest elections under his guidance.”

Regarding the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, which have reached four phases with voting concluding on June 1 and results expected on June 4, Shah highlighted that Delhi’s voting for its seven seats slated for May 25. He noted the alliance between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress in Delhi, with AAP contesting four and Congress three seats, respectively.
