The Public Relations Office (PRO) of the Supreme Court, in a bid to address the misinformation and prevent further spread, released an official statement. The statement categorically denies any association of the CJI with the said quote. The PRO’s statement reads:

“It has come to the notice of the Supreme Court of India that a social media post (invoking the public to protest against authorities) using a file photograph and falsely quoting the Chief Justice India is being circulated. The post is fake, ill-intended and mischievous. No such post has been issued by the Chief Justice of India nor has he authorized any such post.”

The PRO further emphasized the gravity of the situation by stating that such misleading posts not only spread misinformation but also have the potential to harm the reputation of esteemed institutions and individuals. They clarified that neither the CJI nor anyone authorized by him had issued or endorsed such a statement. In light of this, the PRO announced that

“Appropriate action is being taken in this regard with the law enforcement authorities.”

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by the digital age, where misinformation can spread rapidly. It underscores the critical importance of verifying news sources and being cautious about sharing unverified information, especially when it concerns prominent public figures or institutions. The Supreme Court’s prompt response aims to mitigate the spread of such false information and ensure that the public remains informed with accurate, credible news.
