New Delhi: On 28 July, the Supreme Court’s Collegium made a key recommendation.

“The Supreme Collegium on July 28 recommended the appointment of judicial officer Vimal Kumar Yadav as a judge of the Delhi High Court.”

This marks a significant step in the career of Vimal Kumar Yadav, a seasoned judicial officer in Delhi’s judicial service. According to another statement,

“The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 28th July, 2025 has approved the proposal for appointment of Shri Vimal Kumar Yadav, Judicial Officer, as a Judge of the High Court of Delhi.”

Profile of Vimal Kumar Yadav

Vimal Kumar Yadav joined the Delhi Judicial Service in 1992, rising steadily through the ranks. In 2003, he became part of the Delhi Higher Judicial Service.

Over the years, he has held important roles such as Additional Registrar in the Supreme Court, and served as Additional District Judge, Additional Sessions Judge, and other senior judicial positions in Delhi.

He was promoted to the higher judicial cadre in 2006, reflecting over two decades of judicial experience across different capacities.

He has also served in administrative roles such as Principal District & Sessions Judge, New Delhi, and Chairperson of the New Delhi District Legal Services Authority, where he worked alongside officials like Secretary Kumar Rahul.

Significance of the Recommendation

Such a recommendation by the Collegium is a crucial precursor to the formal appointment process. It indicates that the Collegium—consisting of senior judges of the Supreme Court—has vetted and endorsed his suitability.

The proposal now awaits formal notification from the Ministry of Law and Justice, which is required before he officially takes office.

Justice appointments through the Collegium follow a process shaped by judicial independence and precedent set by earlier Supreme Court judgments.

This sets the scene for Vimal Kumar Yadav to step into the Delhi High Court bench, bringing his varied experience and service record to the higher judiciary.
