The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Orissa High Court Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo for appointment as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by CJI Surya Kant on December 18.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo of the Orissa High Court as the next Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. The recommendation was made during a Collegium meeting held on December 18.
The Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant, proposed the elevation of five senior High Court judges as Chief Justices of different High Courts across the country. Justice Sahoo’s name was among those approved for elevation as part of this process to fill upcoming vacancies in the High Courts.
Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo was born on June 5, 1964. He completed his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Cuttack Law College.
After finishing his legal education, he enrolled as an Advocate with the Orissa State Bar Council at Cuttack in the year 1989. During his years at the Bar, he gained wide experience in legal practice before entering the judiciary.
He was elevated as a Judge of the Orissa High Court on July 2, 2014. Since then, Justice Sahoo has served the court for over a decade, contributing to the administration of justice through his work in various civil and criminal matters.

The recommendation now awaits approval by the Central Government. Once cleared, Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo will take charge as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, one of the oldest High Courts in the country.
His appointment is expected to strengthen the functioning of the Patna High Court and help address judicial administration and case pendency.
This move is part of the Supreme Court Collegium’s ongoing efforts to ensure timely appointments and leadership continuity in High Courts across India.
