BREAKING | CJI Gavai Not Holding Court on 14th July: Supreme Court Reshuffles Benches and Timings in Major Last-Minute Notice

NEW DELHI: On 14th July 2025 (Monday), the Supreme Court of India issued an important notice stating that Hon’ble The Chief Justice BR Gavai will not be holding court on that day.

Due to this change, the sitting of the Chief Justice’s Bench — which was supposed to include Hon’ble CJI Gavai, Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. Vinod Chandran, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. V. Anjaria — has been completely cancelled.

As per the official notice:

“Hon’ble The Chief Justice will not be holding the Court on 14.07.2025 (Monday).”

“Hence, sitting of Chief Justice’s Court comprising Hon’ble The Chief Justice, Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. Vinod Chandran and Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. V. Anjaria stands cancelled and the matters listed before Chief Justice’s Court will now be taken up for hearing by the Bench comprising Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. Vinod Chandran and Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. V. Anjaria in Court No.10 except part-heard and specifically directed matters, if any.”

This means that all the matters that were listed before the Chief Justice will now be heard by the new Bench of Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. Vinod Chandran and Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. V. Anjaria in Court Room No. 10. However, this does not include those cases which are already partly heard or require special directions.

The notice also includes information about the responsibilities of Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. Vinod Chandran after the regular work of Court No. 10 is done.

The court stated:

“Hon’ble Mr. Justice K Vinod Chandran will take up Single Judge Bench/Chamber Matters in Court No. 10 after the normal work of Court No. 10 is over.”

Another update is regarding the change in timing for the Bench of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Joymalya Bagchi. Originally scheduled to begin at 11:00 A.M., their sitting has been advanced.
As per the revised schedule:

“Further, the Bench comprising Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Joymalya Bagchi will now sit at 10.30 A.M. instead of 11.00 AM on 14th July, 2025 (Monday) in Court No.2.”

The notice is officially dated 14th July 2025 and signed by the Deputy Registrar (DEU-II/Listing).
