Top judges from several countries joined the Constitution Day celebrations at the Supreme Court of India, highlighting global respect for India’s judicial system. The event marked the adoption of the Indian Constitution and strengthened international legal cooperation.
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant warmly welcomed several top judges from different countries who arrived at the Supreme Court of India to take part in the special Constitution Day celebration held on Tuesday, November 26, in New Delhi.
This important event marked the adoption of the Constitution of India and highlighted the global respect for India’s judicial system.

As part of the celebrations, Chief Justices and senior judges from various nations attended live court proceedings along with CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.
This rare gathering showed strong international cooperation among constitutional courts and reaffirmed India’s role as a leader in upholding democratic values and the rule of law.
Among the distinguished guests were Chief Justice of Bhutan Lyonpo Norbu Tshering, Chief Justice of Kenya Martha K Koome, Chief Justice of Mauritius Rehana Bibi Mungly-Gulbul, and Chief Justice of Sri Lanka Preethi Padman Surasena.
Along with them, senior judges from the Supreme Courts of Kenya, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Federal Court of Malaysia were also present, making the occasion truly international in nature.
While welcoming the visiting dignitaries, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant addressed the gathering and said,
“They are here to grace the Constitution Day celebration in the Supreme Court, where Honourable President of India has graciously agreed to be the guest. And it was a coincidence that I took oath as the CJI on the 24th of November.”

He further added,
“On behalf of the Supreme Court of India and all the members of the bar, I welcome all the guests,”
Extending his greetings on behalf of the Government of India, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta also spoke and stated,
“On behalf of the Government of India, as a law officer, I welcome all the Lordships and Ladyships to one of the greatest courts in the world.”
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the legal fraternity, also welcomed the guests and said,
“I, also on behalf of the bar, welcome all the dignitaries that are here today.”
Constitution Day, also known as National Law Day, is celebrated every year on November 26 to remember the day when the Constitution of India was adopted in 1949.
The Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950, and since then, November 26 has been observed to honour the values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity that form the foundation of the Indian democracy.
This year’s celebration at the Supreme Court gained extra importance as the President of India also attended the event, alongside judges and legal experts from across the world.
The presence of international Chief Justices highlighted the growing global recognition of India’s constitutional framework and its strong judicial institutions.
The event reflected India’s commitment to protecting constitutional principles and promoting cooperation among global legal systems, reinforcing the Supreme Court’s position as one of the most respected judicial bodies in the world.
