Today, On 18th August, The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the plea of AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi challenging the Delhi High Court order that refused to quash a defamation case, with Justice Sundresh stating, “We will fix a date.”
New Delhi: The Supreme Court heard the plea filed by Aam Aadmi Party leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi.
They have challenged the Delhi High Court’s decision that refused to quash a defamation case lodged against them.
The matter came up before a bench of Justice M.M. Sundresh and Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh.

When the case was called, counsel appearing for the petitioners requested the court for some more time and said,
“I am requesting a passover.”
The counsel further submitted before the bench that,
“My Lords, the matter is listed on a non-miscellaneous day.”
Justice Sundresh, after going through the records, observed, “Alright. But after reviewing the counter, it states that authorization has already been obtained.”
Responding to this, counsel argued that the authorization which had been obtained was from the State, and added that,
“The authorization is from the State there are precedents from Your Lordship.”
After considering the submissions, Justice Sundresh made it clear that the case would not be disposed of immediately and instead noted,
“We will fix a date.”

The petition arises from a defamation case where both Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi had sought relief from the Delhi High Court.
However, the High Court had earlier dismissed their request to quash the proceedings. Now, the Supreme Court has taken up their appeal and indicated that a date will be fixed for further hearing.
