Supreme Court Releases 2026 Calendar: Full List of Vacations and Working Days, ‘Partial Court Working Days’ Begin June 1

The Supreme Court has released its 2026 calendar, detailing the complete list of vacations and working days for the upcoming year. It also announces that ‘Partial Court Working Days’ for the annual summer vacation will formally begin on June 1.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India published its calendar for 2026, outlining the court’s operational days and periods of vacation.

This notification, released by the Secretary General, details the schedule for summer breaks, festival holidays, and the status of the Registry.

The calendar indicates that the Supreme Court is set to resume hearings on Monday, January 5, 2026, after the Christmas and New Year holidays that last until January 2, 2026.

The most notable break, termed “Partial Court working days” (Summer Vacation), will begin on Monday, June 1, 2026.

The Full Court will reconvene following this break on Monday, July 13, 2026. It is clarified that the Registry will operate during this interval, with the exception of Saturdays, Sundays, and other holidays.

Additionally, the calendar specifies extended holidays for key festivals:

  • Holi Holidays: Monday, March 2, to Saturday, March 7, 2026 (with Holi celebrated on Wednesday, March 4).
  • Dussehra Holidays: Monday, October 19, to Saturday, October 24, 2026 (Dussehra falls on Tuesday, October 20).
  • Diwali Holidays: Monday, November 9, to Saturday, November 14, 2026 (Diwali is on Sunday, November 8).

Other significant holidays include Republic Day (January 26), Good Friday (April 3), Independence Day (August 15), and Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday (October 2).

Moreover, the calendar notes that the dates for Id-ul-Fitr (March 21), Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) (May 27), Muharram (June 26), and Milad-un-Nabi (August 26) are subject to alteration based on lunar visibility.

The last working period for the year will wind up before the Christmas and New Year holidays, scheduled from Monday, December 21, 2026, to Friday, January 1, 2027.

The Registry will be closed from Friday, December 25, 2026, to Friday, January 1, 2027 (both dates included).
