NALSA has postponed the National Lok Adalat in several northern regions due to a “war-like situation” along the India-Pakistan border. Over 1.82 crore cases were still resolved nationwide on May 10.
New Delhi: Today, On May 13, The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has decided to postpone the second National Lok Adalat of the year in some parts of northern India due to the rising tension and what has been described as “a war-like situation along the India-Pakistan border”.
The decision affects Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and some districts in Rajasthan. These regions will now hold the Lok Adalat on different dates, which will be announced later.

NALSA had originally scheduled the second National Lok Adalat of 2025 on May 10 across 23 states and Union Territories.
The event was held successfully in those areas, resulting in the peaceful and mutual resolution of a huge number of legal matters.
In a statement, NALSA said,
“The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), which organised the year’s second National Lok Adalat on May 10 in 23 states and Union territories, said the Lok Adalat in the renaming places would be organised on later dates.”
NALSA also shared that this nationwide legal settlement initiative helped resolve more than 1.82 crore cases in total.
These include both pre-litigation and pending matters in courts. This shows the growing importance of Lok Adalats as a fast, cost-effective, and people-friendly way to solve disputes outside the regular court process.
In a clear acknowledgment of the current sensitive situation in the affected areas, NALSA mentioned tensions and security issues as the reason behind the postponement.
As per the official statement, the delay is due to “a war-like situation along the India-Pakistan border”.
Lok Adalats play a major role in easing the burden on Indian courts by promoting compromise and agreement between parties in legal disputes.
They are organized under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, and their decisions are final and binding like those of a civil court.
The successful conduct of the Lok Adalat in most parts of the country and the settlement of over 1.82 crore cases stands as proof of the legal aid movement’s impact on common citizens.

As of now, NALSA is expected to soon announce the new dates for the postponed Lok Adalat sessions in the affected regions, once the security situation improves.
Meanwhile, the legal community and public in these areas are waiting for the revised schedule so they too can benefit from this nationwide dispute resolution mechanism.
