A Bareilly court sentenced a man to life imprisonment for starving his wife to death in 2021. The husband had locked her without food and water for a week after a domestic quarrel.

Bareilly (UP): Today, On May 18, Bareilly court in Uttar Pradesh has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife by starving her in the year 2021.
The incident happened in Kareli village, and the accused, Manoj, was found guilty of keeping his wife Mamta locked inside a room without food and water for a whole week after a domestic fight.

As a result of this cruelty, Mamta died of starvation.
The judgment was given on Saturday, May 18, by Additional District and Sessions Judge Gyanendra Tripathi, who also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict.
The Additional District Government Advocate (ADGC), Sunil Pandey, shared the details of the case with the media.
He said,
“Manoj, a resident of Kareli village, had locked his wife Mamta without food and water in a room for a week following a quarrel.”
According to the prosecution, Manoj and Mamta often had quarrels, and after one such argument in 2021, Manoj took an extreme step by confining Mamta inside a room and denying her any food or water.
This shocking act of cruelty led to her death, and soon after, the case was registered by the local police. The investigation revealed strong evidence against Manoj, leading to his conviction.
The case was heard over several months, during which witnesses were examined, and evidence was presented in court.
The prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused had committed the heinous crime intentionally and showed no remorse for his actions.
This judgment sends out a strong message that domestic violence and cruelty against women will not be tolerated, and the law will take strict action against such crimes.
The life sentence awarded to Manoj shows the seriousness of the offense and the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of women in society.
The court’s decision has brought a sense of justice to Mamta’s family, who had been waiting for a verdict in the case for the past few years.
