Uttar Pradesh: On Tuesday, August 20: A Sultanpur court expressed strong disapproval of Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh’s failure to appear for a case dating back two decades, ordering his arrest along with the other accused by August 28.

A non-bailable warrant had been issued on August 13 for Singh, Samajwadi Party leader Anoop Sanda, and four others, with a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
None of the accused showed up in court, prompting the judge to direct the police to arrest and produce all accused by August 28, according to a court officer.
Madan Singh, representing the six accused, noted that a bail petition for Singh and Sanda has been filed with the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, with a hearing set for August 22.
The case registered after a protest on June 19, 2001, near an overbridge close to Sultanpur’s Sabzi Mandi area, led by former SP MLA Anoop Sanda over inadequate power supply. Singh and former councillors Kamal Srivastava, Vijay Kumar, Santosh, and Subhash Chaudhary participated in the demonstration.

The case was registered at Kotwali Nagar Police Station. On January 11, 2023, Special Magistrate Yogesh Yadav convicted them and sentenced them to three months of imprisonment. They were ordered to appear before the MP/MLA court on August 9, but their absence led Special Magistrate Shubham Verma to issue non-bailable warrants.
