New Delhi: Today, on June 4, the Patiala House Court has fixed June 9 as the date to hear a plea filed by Tahawwur Rana, who is considered a key accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks conspiracy.

Rana is currently in judicial custody and has asked the court for permission to talk to his family members while he is in Tihar Jail, following the rules of the jail.

In his application, Rana has requested that he be allowed to stay in touch with his family, who live abroad.

His lawyer, Advocate Piyush Sachdeva, submitted this request to the court and said that as Rana is a foreign national, it is important that he is allowed to communicate with his family during his time in custody.

He said,

“as a foreign national, Rana has the fundamental right to maintain communication with his family, who remain concerned about his well-being during his detention.”

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has already submitted its reply to the plea. After reviewing the reply, the court has shared it with the Tihar Jail authorities, who have been asked to submit their own response.

Based on both sides’ comments, the court will take a decision during the hearing scheduled on June 9.

Rana had earlier been kept under NIA custody, during which he was not allowed to speak with his family.

His lawyer objected to this and stressed that basic rights should not be denied, especially in the case of a foreign citizen whose family is worried about him.

However, the NIA has opposed Rana’s plea. They argued that allowing him to talk to his family might affect the ongoing investigation.

According to the agency, there is a

“potential risk of sensitive information being disclosed.”

Tahawwur Rana was recently brought to India from the United States after his extradition. Indian authorities, especially the NIA, are making efforts to bring every person involved in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks to justice.

Rana is believed to have played an important role in the planning and support of the attacks, which were carried out by the Pakistani terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

As part of the investigation, officials have also taken Rana’s voice and handwriting samples.

These samples will be studied closely to see if they match any materials connected to the attacks or the other people involved.

The 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks were among the deadliest attacks in Indian history.

More than 170 people lost their lives, and hundreds were seriously injured when terrorists attacked major places in Mumbai, including hotels, a railway station, and other public spots.

The case is still under investigation, and the arrest and custody of Rana are considered very important to uncover the complete plan and catch everyone who helped carry out the attack.
