Mumbai court issues notice to Rhea Chakraborty on CBI’s closure report ruling out foul play in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Hearing set for August 12 to decide next legal step.

Mumbai: A Mumbai court has recently issued a notice to Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty, asking her to reply to the closure report submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case related to actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.

The CBI had filed its closure report in March this year before a magistrate court in Bandra, Mumbai, ending its investigation into the high-profile case that began nearly five years ago.

However, the matter was later transferred to the Esplanade Court in South Mumbai, which specifically deals with CBI cases.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate R D Chavan, who is overseeing the case at the Esplanade Court, issued a notice to the

“original informant/victim/aggrieved person”

in the matter, which is Rhea Chakraborty. This notice came earlier this month, and the court has now scheduled the next hearing for August 12.

Rhea Chakraborty had earlier filed a complaint in which she accused Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters and a doctor of being responsible for his death.

Now, the court will decide whether to accept the CBI’s closure report or ask the agency to conduct further investigation based on the submissions of the involved parties.

In its closure report, filed in March, the CBI concluded that there was no evidence of foul play in the actor’s death.

A senior official stated that the agency had thoroughly investigated all angles and relied on expert opinions, forensic analysis, witness statements, and examination of the crime scene. Based on this, the federal agency found no solid proof to support any allegations that someone could have abetted or encouraged the actor to die by suicide.

“There was no material to support the allegations that anyone could have driven the actor to suicide.”

During the probe, the CBI had recorded statements of several people who were close to the late actor, including Rhea Chakraborty.

They also collected Sushant Singh Rajput’s medical records as part of their investigation.

Sushant Singh Rajput, a 34-year-old actor from Bihar, was found hanging in his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. His sudden death triggered massive public attention and media coverage across the country.

Following his death, the Bihar Police had registered a case of abetment to suicide against Rhea Chakraborty based on a complaint by Sushant’s father, K K Singh, in Patna.

In the complaint, Singh alleged that Rhea and her family members had misused Sushant’s money and were responsible for his mental condition. However, Rhea denied these allegations in several TV interviews, calling them false and baseless.

The latest legal update highlights that the court is yet to take a final decision on the CBI’s findings, as the matter is still under judicial consideration.

Whether the closure report will be accepted or further investigation will be ordered depends on the arguments and evidence presented by the involved parties during the hearing scheduled for August 12.
