A Chandausi court has set the next hearing in the Shahi Jama Masjid and Harihar temple dispute, marking another chapter in the sensitive case that has drawn wide attention, with proceedings listed for September 25.

A court in Chandausi scheduled a hearing for the ongoing dispute between Shahi Jama Masjid and Harihar temple for September 25.

This matter will be addressed by civil judge (senior division) Aditya Singh.

Advocate Shakeel Ahmed Warsi, representing the Shahi Jama Masjid, informed reporters that the hearing, originally set for today, has been postponed due to a stay order from the Supreme Court.

Hindu side advocate Shri Shri Gopal Sharma confirmed this development to media.

The Muslim side has raised questions regarding the case’s maintainability in the Allahabad High Court.

However, on May 19, the high court upheld the trial court’s decision to allow a court-monitored survey and instructed the trial court to continue with the proceedings.

This dispute traces back to November 19 of last year, when Hindu petitioners, including advocates Hari Shankar Jain and Vishnu Shankar Jain, filed a lawsuit in the Sambhal district court, claiming that the mosque was constructed over an existing temple.

A court-ordered survey took place on the same day, followed by another on November 24. The second survey resulted in significant unrest in Sambhal, leading to the deaths of four individuals and injuries to 29 police personnel.

The police have filed charges against SP MP Ziaur Rahman Barq and mosque committee head Zafar Ali in connection with the violence, and an FIR has been lodged against 2,750 unidentified individuals.

Tensions in Sambhal have been on the rise since November 19 of last year, when a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid commenced following allegations that a Harihar temple once existed at the site.

The situation escalated on November 24 during the second survey, leading to violent clashes between protesters and security forces. The subsequent stone-pelting and arson resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to many others.

The Jama Masjid-Harihar Temple case in SambhalUttar Pradesh, involves a dispute over the religious identity of a site claimed by both Hindu and Muslim communities.
