Actor Sahil Khan Sent to Police Custody in Rs. 15,000 Crore 'Mahadev Betting App Scandal'

MUMBAI: On Sunday(28th April), A court in Mumbai has ordered actor Sahil Khan to be placed in two-day police custody starting from April 29, as part of the investigation into the Mahadev Betting App case.

The case involves alleged irregularities amounting to a staggering Rs 15,000 crore. On Sunday, Sahil Khan was brought to Mumbai from Chhattisgarh under the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch’s Special Investigative Team (SIT).

Today, he was produced before the Shindewadi-Dadar court, where he expressed his trust in the country’s judiciary, stating,-

“I have faith in the country’s judiciary.”

Sahil Khan’s lawyer, Mujahid Ansari, has claimed that his client has been framed in the matter.

Ansari explained-

“They requested custody for investigation purposes, presenting their case in both the Session Court and the High Court, citing the existence of 2000 SIM cards and 1700 bank accounts…”

The court has granted a two-day police custody, scheduled for April 29 and 30, with Sahil Khan set to appear again on May 1.

Responding to allegations, Sahil Khan’s lawyer asserted-

“Sahil Khan does not own any SIM cards or bank accounts. We have cooperated fully and provided bank statements, which show no evidence. He is innocent and falsely implicated in the case, merely accused of promoting the app.”

Furthermore, Mumbai Police has confiscated Sahil Khan’s passport as part of the ongoing legal proceedings. The actor was apprehended in Chhattisgarh on Saturday after evading authorities for nearly 40 hours. His attempt to secure a pre-arrest bail was rejected by the Bombay High Court.

Sahil Khan is accused of running a betting site and promoting illegal betting activities. His name emerged during the investigation of the Mahadev betting app case conducted by the Matunga Police in Mumbai. Initially granted anticipatory bail by the Bombay High Court, Sahil Khan was required to cooperate with police interrogation, which he failed to fulfill, leading to his current situation. The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) successfully tracked down Sahil Khan in Chhattisgarh and apprehended him.

According to Mumbai Crime Branch officials, Sahil Khan has been uncooperative during the interrogation process. The case, initially filed at Mumbai’s Matunga Police Station, includes more than 38 individuals, including Sahil Khan, linked to a significant betting scandal. The estimated magnitude of the fraud amounts to a staggering Rs 15,000 crore, as stated in the first information report (FIR) lodged for the case.

Among the individuals named in the FIR are Mustakim, the brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Saurabh Chandrakar, Ravi Upal, Shubham Soni, and several others. It is worth noting that the primary accused, Ravi Uppal, was detained in Dubai last year by local authorities.

According to sources, the arrest was made by Dubai police based on a red corner notice issued by Interpol at the request of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Sahil Khan, known for his roles in films like ‘Style’ and ‘Excuse Me,’ has transitioned into the fitness industry in recent years. Initially handled by the local police, the case was later transferred to the Crime Branch’s cyber cell for further investigation, eventually leading to the establishment of the Special Investigative Team (SIT).
