Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar rejected the revision plea filed by advocate Harishankar Pandey, who sought an FIR against the two leaders.

Varanasi: A Varanasi sessions court on Tuesday dismissed a petition requesting the registration of an FIR against Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for their comments related to the ongoing Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanvapi Mosque case.

Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar rejected the revision plea filed by advocate Harishankar Pandey, who sought an FIR against the two leaders.

In February 2023, a magistrate court had previously dismissed Pandey’s plea, stating that no cognizable offence was established against the leaders as alleged. This led Pandey to escalate the matter to the sessions court.

Pandey claimed that both leaders were attempting to disrupt the atmosphere in Varanasi by making controversial remarks that hurt religious sentiments, particularly about the object found inside the Gyanvapi Mosque, claimed to be a Shiva Linga. He argued that despite the Supreme Court refraining from commenting on the issue, these leaders were allegedly stirring public emotions for electoral gains.

The plea further alleged that their remarks had ‘hurt the sentiments’ of Hindus regarding the Shiva Linga.
