Saharanpur (UP): Today (On Oct 23): A special court framed charges against Congress MP from Saharanpur, Imran Masood, for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Narendra Modi in 2014, when Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, according to government advocate Gulab Singh.

Singh stated on Wednesday that the charges were framed on Tuesday by Judge Mohit Sharma in the special MP-MLA court, which deals with cases involving legislators.

BRIEF FACTS

The case was registered on March 27, 2014, by Kusum Veer Singh, who was the Kotwali in-charge of Deoband at the time. It was alleged that Masood, during an election meeting in Labkari village under the Deoband police station area, made a controversial statement threatening to “tear Modi into pieces.” At that time, Modi was the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.

Masood’s remarks also reportedly included derogatory comments about two leaders from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The controversial statement sparked widespread outrage, with a video of it going viral on social media.

Gulab Singh added that 19 witnesses gave their statements in the special court during the trial.

Masood, who had briefly switched to the BSP in 2023, returned to the Congress the same year. He went on to win the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Saharanpur.
