NIA custody of Red Fort blast accused Amir Rashid Ali has been extended by the Patiala House Court for another seven days. He was produced after completing his earlier remand in the high-profile Delhi terror case.
Amir Rashid Ali, one of the accused in the Red Fort blast case, was produced before a Delhi court on Tuesday after the end of his earlier police custody. He was brought before Principal and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna.
Earlier, on November 29, the court had sent three doctors and a preacher, who were also arrested in the Red Fort blast case, to 10 days’ judicial custody.
So far, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested seven people linked to this case. According to officials, the matter is connected to a “white-collar” terror module that was earlier busted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
On Tuesday, the Special NIA Court at Patiala House extended the custody of Amir Rashid Ali for another seven days. He was produced before the court after completing his previous seven-day NIA custody.
Before this, he had also been remanded to 10 days’ custody soon after his arrest on November 16 in connection with the Red Fort blast.
The Principal District and Sessions Judge (Special NIA Judge) again granted the NIA seven more days of custody. The hearing took place inside a closed courtroom. Even on November 26, the NIA court had extended Amir Rashid Ali’s custody for seven days.
The blast incident had taken place in Delhi on November 10 at around 7 pm. The explosion happened inside a moving Hyundai i20 car driven by an alleged suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi.
A total of 15 people lost their lives, while more than two dozen others suffered injuries in the deadly blast. The NIA has said that Amir Rashid Ali came to Delhi to help in buying the car that was later used as a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
During the investigation, the NIA has forensically confirmed the identity of the deceased driver as Umar Un Nabi. He was a resident of Pulwama district and worked as an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University in Faridabad.
