New Delhi, January 20, 2025: Rajan Singh, the transgender candidate representing the Aam Janata Party (AJP) from the Kalkaji assembly constituency, has accused members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of harassing them during the nomination process for the upcoming Delhi elections.

Singh, who identifies as a transgender person, claimed that whenever they attempted to file their nomination papers, AAP members forcibly tore them. Singh also alleged that the Delhi Police had previously refused to register a complaint regarding the harassment.

Speaking to ANI, Rajan Singh shared the details of the incidents: “AAP leaders are constantly harassing me and even the Delhi Police is not registering my complaint. The Delhi High Court heard my complaints and sent a notice to the Delhi Police to submit a report within 48 hours.”

Despite these challenges, Singh successfully submitted their nomination papers to the Returning Officer for the Kalkaji assembly constituency.

Singh emphasized the repeated harassment they faced during the process, stating, “I am from the transgender community and I am representing my community. When I was going to file my nomination papers, it was torn.”

The Delhi High Court has now intervened in the matter, issuing a notice to the Delhi Police, instructing them to respond to Rajan Singh’s plea.

Justice Vikas Mahajan directed the police to file a report on the harassment within 48 hours. The High Court has scheduled a hearing for January 27.

Rajan Singh also described an incident where their electoral roll certificate was violently taken and destroyed by unknown individuals, allegedly connected to rival candidates.

Singh stated, “49, Tuglakabad Extension, New Delhi, some unknown persons/opposite party’s henchman came near the petitioner and snatched his electoral roll certificate from his hand, tore the same and threatened the petitioner with a life-threatening.”

Singh further claimed that some rival candidates had been threatening them with dire consequences.

In light of the ongoing threats, Singh has called for immediate police protection, stating, “It is alleged that some rival candidates are threatening the petitioner with dire consequences and for this, the petitioner urgently needs police protection.”

Rajan Singh faces competition in the Kalkaji constituency from Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, who is the AAP candidate, along with BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress’ Alka Lamba.

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with the vote counting to take place on February 8.
