A Chandausi court has reserved its judgment in a case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his “fighting the Indian state” remarks. The verdict is set to be announced on November 7.
A district court in Chandausi, Uttar Pradesh, has reserved its judgment in a case filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his alleged remarks about “fighting the Indian state.” The verdict will be announced on November 7, according to court officials.
The case is being heard by Additional District Judge (ADJ) II Aarti Fauzdar at the Chandausi district court. The complaint was filed by Simran Gupta, the national president of the Hindu Shakti Dal, who claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s statement had “hurt public sentiments.”
Speaking to PTI, Simran Gupta said,
“On January 15, during the inauguration of the Delhi Congress office, Rahul Gandhi had said that our fight is not with the BJP or RSS but with the Indian State. His statement hurt the feelings of people across the country.”
According to Gupta, he first submitted complaints to various authorities, including the Sambhal District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police, but no action was taken against Gandhi. Later, he decided to approach the court and filed a formal complaint on January 23.
The court conducted hearings on May 7, June 16, July 18, August 25, and September 26. Both sides presented their arguments, and the proceedings concluded on Tuesday.
Senior advocate Sagir Saifi, who appeared on behalf of Rahul Gandhi, said to PTI,
“I presented the defence today, arguing that the revision petition is not maintainable. The court heard both sides and fixed November 7 for judgment.”
The case revolves around Rahul Gandhi’s remarks made earlier this year, which the complainant claims were disrespectful towards the nation and its institutions.

The Chandausi court’s decision on November 7 will determine whether Gandhi’s comments amounted to an offence under law or were protected as part of free speech.
The matter has drawn public attention as it touches on the sensitive balance between freedom of expression and the limits of political criticism, especially when statements are interpreted as being against the Indian State itself.
