Today, On 18th July, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended four students from AIIMS Patna for their involvement in the NEET-UG paper leak. These students were part of a ‘solver module’ scheme designed to manipulate the examination process.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested four medical students from AIIMS Patna on Thursday, accused of being part of a ‘solver module’ involved in the NEET-UG paper leak case. These students allegedly collaborating with a key suspect arrested two days prior, according to officials.
The arrested individuals include Chandan Singh, Rahul Anant, and Kumar Shanu, all third-year MBBS students, and Karan Jain, a second-year student. Their arrests followed detailed questioning by a CBI team.

This action comes two days after the CBI detained Pankaj Kumar, also known as Aditya, a 2017-batch civil engineer from the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur. Kumar accused of stealing the NEET-UG 2024 paper from a National Testing Agency (NTA) trunk in Hazaribagh.
Officials allege that the four AIIMS Patna students were part of the solver module working with Kumar. Kumar reportedly stole the paper and handed it over to a group of solvers in Hazaribagh, of which the arrested students allegedly members.
With these recent arrests, the total number of individuals detained for involvement in the paper leak, impersonation, and other irregularities in the medical entrance exam has risen to 18.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented the arrested MBBS students before a special court in Patna on Thursday, which subsequently placed them in CBI custody for four days.
The students apprehended from their hostel rooms on Wednesday with prior notice given to senior faculty members of AIIMS, who were informed that the students were needed for an investigation. The officials also noted that the agency sealed the hostel rooms.
AIIMS Patna Director G K, stated,
“The CBI has taken away four students. Chandan Singh, Rahul Anant, and Kumar Shanu are third-year students, and Karan Jain is a second-year student,”
He mentioned that a senior officer sent them photographs and mobile numbers of the students required for the probe.
Paul added,
“The students picked up by a CBI team in the presence of the dean, hostel warden, and OSD to the director.”
Previously, officials reported that Kumar, a resident of Bokaro, arrested from Patna on Tuesday. The CBI also arrested Raju Singh, who allegedly assisted Kumar in stealing the exam paper, from Hazaribagh.
The central probe agency investigating alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam and has filed six FIRs. The Bihar FIR pertains to a paper leak, while the other FIRs from Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra involve candidate impersonation and cheating.
The CBI’s own FIR, based on a reference from the Union education ministry, calls for a “comprehensive investigation” into the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024.
The NEET-UG, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in both government and private institutions, was held on May 5 this year at 4,750 centers across 571 cities, including 14 overseas locations, with over 23 lakh candidates appearing for the test.
