NCW Summons Kejriwal’s Ex-PS Over Assault Allegations by Swati Maliwal

DELHI: Today(on 16th May), The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned Bibhav Kumar, the former Personal Secretary to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, to appear before it on May 17. This development follows serious allegations made by Swati Maliwal, the current RS MP and former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief.

In its official letter, the NCW stated-

“The National Commission for Women has initiated suo motu action based on a media post titled ‘DCW chief Swati Maliwal accuses Arvind Kejriwal’s personal secretary of assaulting her.’ The post reported allegations by Ms. Swati Maliwal, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and former DCW chief, who claimed that she was severely assaulted by Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s Private Secretary at the Chief Minister’s residence.”

Background:

The claims have caused a significant commotion in Delhi’s political circles. On May 13, Swati Maliwal accused Bibhav Kumar of physically assaulting her at the official residence of the Chief Minister. She went to the Civil Lines Police Station to report the incident, stating that a staff member of the Delhi Chief Minister had allegedly assaulted her at the residence.

As the issue escalated, Kumar was seen with Kejriwal at the Lucknow airport on Wednesday, suggesting his continued proximity to the Chief Minister. He was also spotted with AAP senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh at the airport. Reports indicate that Sanjay Singh has been asked to mediate in the matter, trying to navigate the political fallout and address the internal party strife.

Swati Maliwal has demanded strict action against Kumar. Sources close to the situation revealed that internal discussions are ongoing, with significant pressure on the AAP leadership to respond to the allegations transparently.

The BJP has seized the opportunity to criticize the AAP leadership, demanding that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal come clean on the allegations and take appropriate action against the guilty. The opposition party has intensified its attack, leveraging the incident to question the integrity and governance of the AAP administration.

During a press conference on Thursday, Kejriwal evaded questions related to the allegations. When a reporter asked about the situation, Kejriwal passed the microphone to Akhilesh Yadav, who was present at the conference.

Yadav downplayed the incident by stating-

“There are matters of greater significance.”

The NCW’s involvement and the upcoming appearance of Bibhav Kumar before the commission mark a critical juncture in this controversy.
