A Mumbai court fined cricketer Prithvi Shaw Rs 100 for not filing his reply to Sapna Gill’s plea in the molestation case. The hearing has now been adjourned to December 16.

Mumbai: A sessions court in Mumbai on Tuesday imposed a small cost of Rs 100 on Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw for not filing his reply in a case filed by social media influencer Sapna Gill. The matter relates to her allegation of molestation against the cricketer.
Sapna Gill had filed a criminal revision petition in April 2024 before the Dindoshi sessions court. She challenged an earlier order of a magistrate court which had refused to direct the police to register an FIR against Shaw. The alleged incident dates back to 2022 at a pub in Andheri.
The sessions court had asked Shaw several times to respond to Gill’s plea, but no reply was filed. On Tuesday, the court reminded that during the last hearing, it had already given Shaw one final chance. Since there was still no reply, the court imposed a token cost.
The court said,
“Still, one more chance is granted for a cost of Rs 100,”
while adjourning the matter to December 16.
Advocate Ali Kaashif Khan, who is appearing for Sapna Gill, argued that Shaw is deliberately avoiding the process. He claimed this was Shaw’s regular way of handling the case, even though he was summoned many times by the court.
Gill had first approached the Andheri Magistrate court with a request to direct police to register a molestation case against Shaw. However, the magistrate last year only ordered a police enquiry instead of registering a case.
Dissatisfied with that decision, Gill then moved the sessions court, calling the magistrate’s order
“wholly erroneous and against set principles of law and the same needs to be set aside”.
The controversy between Gill and Shaw had earlier hit headlines in February 2023, when Gill and a few others were arrested for allegedly attacking Shaw after an argument about taking selfies with him at a suburban hotel. Gill was later granted bail.
After this, Gill went to the Airport Police Station with a fresh complaint of molestation against Shaw, his friend Ashish Yadav, and a few others. But the police refused to register an FIR in that matter as well.
Now, with the sessions court hearing her revision plea, the matter has once again brought Shaw and Gill face-to-face in court proceedings.
