Bengaluru: Today (24th June): A Bengaluru Court remanded JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna, who was arrested in connection with an alleged sexual abuse case involving a man, to the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) until July 1.
The CID had presented him before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM) judge on Sunday night, resulting in his initial 14-day judicial custody.
Dr. Suraj Revanna, a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, apprehended by the Holenarasipur Rural police in connection with allegations of sodomy involving a male JDS party worker.
The JDS MLC placed in judicial custody following his appearance before a magistrate in Bengaluru on Sunday evening. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has since taken over the case.
A 27-year-old man from Arkalgud taluk lodged a complaint against Revanna, accusing him of coercing him into homosexual acts at Revanna’s farmhouse in Gannikada village, Holenarasipur taluk, on June 16.
Acting on the complaint filed on June 22, the Holenarasipur Rural police detained Suraj Revanna at his farmhouse. He faces charges under Sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Hassan police confiscated Suraj’s mobile phone and interrogated him at the Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) police station. Following this, they conducted a mandatory medical examination at the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences.
Subsequently, Suraj transported to Bengaluru, where he was handed over to the CID police. This transfer was executed as per the state government’s directive to move the case to CID.
Suraj, a 36-year-old legislator, is the son of Holenarasipur MLA HD Revanna and the elder brother of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna.
Suraj brought before the magistrate of the Special Court designated for the trial of cases involving sitting and former MLAs and MPs, at the magistrate’s residence in Koramangala.
The judge ordered Suraj to be held in judicial custody for 14 days, after which he was transferred to Bengaluru Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara. It is reported that the police might seek his custody again.

Meanwhile, the victim underwent a medical examination at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Bengaluru on Saturday night. The victim expressed concerns to the police about potential influence from Suraj’s family on the investigation and insisted that the medical tests be conducted in Bengaluru.
After reviewing the case file, the CID approached the court on Monday seeking his custody for further investigation.
