BENGALURU: Today(on 22nd July), a Bengaluru court granted conditional bail to JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna, who has been embroiled in a sexual abuse case. The court has imposed several strict conditions for his bail, which include the surrender of his passport, mandatory regular attendance before the investigation officer, and a restriction on travel outside the state without prior permission from the court.
Suraj Revanna, a medical doctor and prominent political figure, was arrested last month on allegations of sexually abusing two men. The bail was granted by the Court, which laid down multiple conditions to ensure compliance with legal procedures.
Revanna is the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda and the son of Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna. He is also the brother of Prajwal Revanna, who is similarly accused in a separate sexual abuse case and is currently lodged in jail. The charges against Suraj Revanna include Sections 377, 342, 506, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, which relate to unnatural offences, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention, respectively.

In response to the accusation, Suraj Revanna’s close aide, Shivakumar, claimed that the worker was attempting to extort money from Revanna by falsely accusing him of sexual assault. Shivakumar alleged that the extortion demand was later reduced to Rs.2 crore.
The charges against Suraj Revanna include “unnatural offences,” a serious accusation under Indian law, which has led to his arrest and subsequent legal proceedings. Suraj Revanna was arrested by the police on charges of ‘unnatural offences’ based on Chethan K S’s accusation.
This case has also cast a spotlight on Revanna’s brother, Prajwal Revanna, a former Hassan MP, who is facing similar accusations of sexual misconduct. Prajwal was arrested upon his return from Germany, where he had sought refuge following rape and intimidation charges. The court’s decision to grant conditional bail to Suraj Revanna comes after a special court in Bengaluru had previously rejected his bail plea on July 9. On 9 July, a special court in Bengaluru had rejected the bail plea of JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna in the sodomy case.
