Mumbai court sends 40-year-old teacher to 14-day judicial custody for allegedly sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy. Judge denied further police remand, stating “no reasonable ground for extension of police custody.”
Mumbai: Today, on July 3, a Mumbai court refused to give more police custody to a 40-year-old woman school teacher who was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy student. Instead, the court sent her to 14 days of judicial custody.
The accused woman, who is an English teacher and also married, was arrested last week after the boy’s parents filed a police complaint.

According to the police, the woman started liking the boy during school meetings held in December 2023, when preparations were going on for the school’s annual function.
The police told the court that she used to take the minor boy to luxury hotels. They also claimed that during these meetings, she would serve him alcohol and give him anti-anxiety tablets.
The police said the boy started facing mental health problems after the alleged abuse and went into depression.

After completing his Class 10 board exams, the boy left the school but continued to struggle emotionally due to what happened.
The police wanted more time to investigate the case further, so they requested an extension of her police custody.
However, Special Judge Sabina Malik, who is handling cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, denied the request for further remand.

In her order, she clearly said,
“The investigating officer asked for further remand, but there is no reasonable ground for extension of police custody.”
The woman was produced before the special POCSO court at the end of her earlier police remand. But instead of extending her stay in police custody, the court decided to send her to jail for 14 days under judicial custody.
