Kolkata Gang Rape Case | 'Medical Exam Confirms Forceful Penetration & Bite Marks’: Test Corroborates Allegation By Law Student

WEST BENGAL: In a shocking case from Kolkata, a 24-year-old first-year student of South Calcutta Law College has alleged that she was gang-raped inside the college campus on the evening of June 25. The medical test has confirmed her allegations, said a senior Kolkata Police officer on Friday, June 27, 2025.

According to the victim’s police complaint, she had gone to the college to submit a form for an upcoming test. After completing her work, she was forced to stay back in the union room by three individuals — one ex-student of the college who is now a criminal lawyer, and two current senior students.

“The evidence corroborated what the victim alleged in her complaint lodged with the Kasba Police Station. There is evidence of forceful penetration, bite marks and nail scratches on her body,”

-said the senior police officer.

The medical report also showed marks of physical violence, especially around her neck area.

Answering questions from the press, the officer revealed that the main accused, a former student, raped the woman while the two other senior students stood outside the room as guards.

“According to a Supreme Court judgement, all persons in a group involved in cases of gang rape must be held liable, even if all of them did not commit the act of rape. In this case, two other persons helped in the rape. So this is a case of gang rape, and they are also accused in the case,”

-said Chief Police Prosecutor Sourin Ghosal.

This brutal incident reminded many in the city of the disturbing rape and murder of a medical intern inside RG Kar Medical College in August last year.

In her complaint, the survivor stated that one of the accused had proposed marriage to her, but she rejected him by saying she was already in a relationship.

“Then one of the three accused proposed her to marry but she refused telling them she was already in a relationship,”

-the police officer said.

The police added that her torture continued for over three hours — from 7:30 PM to 10:50 PM. During this time, the woman had severe breathing issues and begged the accused to take her to a hospital.

She said in her complaint that she pleaded for an inhaler, which was later brought from a nearby pharmacy. However, no help or mercy was shown as the assault continued.

“She alleged that the two senior students present there had video recorded the rape on their mobile phones and threatened to leak it to social media if she approaches the police,”

-the officer said.

The woman further mentioned in her complaint that the ex-student was a powerful person who had even made her the secretary of a women’s organisation at the college, which made it harder for her to protest earlier.

All three accused were arrested on Thursday and are currently in police custody. The investigation is ongoing, and the police have promised strict action and full legal proceedings.
