Rampur, Uttar Pradesh: A local court has escalated legal proceedings against former Rajya Sabha MP and acclaimed actress Jaya Prada, issuing a non-bailable warrant for her arrest in connection with alleged violations of the election code of conduct. This latest warrant marks the seventh such directive against the actor-turned-politician, underscoring the court’s determination to ensure compliance with its orders.

Jaya Prada, a prominent figure in Indian politics and cinema, has been embroiled in legal challenges stemming from her participation in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where she contested from Rampur on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. The cases against her, filed at the Camri and Swar Police Stations, accuse her of breaching election conduct rules during the campaign period. Despite multiple court summons, Jaya Prada’s consistent absence has led to the issuance of non-bailable warrants, signaling the judiciary’s impatience with her non-compliance.

The MP/MLA court’s decision to involve the Superintendent of Rampur Police in ensuring her arrest highlights the seriousness with which these allegations are being pursued. An official, speaking to India Today, emphasized that the prosecution’s testimony has been completed, and the court now requires Jaya Prada’s statement under Section 313 (Power to examine the accused) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), a critical phase in the trial process that necessitates her presence.

The court has repeatedly set dates for Jaya Prada to record her statement, but her failure to appear has led to the current situation where her arrest has become imperative for the legal process to proceed. The next hearing, scheduled for February 27, is anticipated with keen interest, as it will determine the course of these proceedings.

This case not only highlights the legal challenges faced by public figures in India but also serves as a reminder of the judiciary’s role in enforcing electoral integrity. The repeated issuance of non-bailable warrants against Jaya Prada underscores the principle that adherence to the law is paramount, regardless of an individual’s status or position. As the case unfolds, it will undoubtedly attract attention from both legal circles and the public, eager to see how justice will be served in this intersection of politics and law.
