Jammu Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against AAP MLA Mehraj Malik in Defamation Case

A Jammu Court issued a non-bailable warrant against AAP MLA Mehraj Malik in a defamation case filed by ex-MLA Ghulam Mohammad Saroori. Malik is accused of using defamatory language against Saroori during the DDC elections.

Jammu Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against AAP MLA Mehraj Malik in Defamation Case

J&K: A Court in Jammu issued a non-bailable warrant against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik. This is related to a defamation case filed by former MLA and minister Ghulam Mohammad Saroori.

The Special Excise Mobile Magistrate in Jammu has ordered the SHO of Police Station Gundoh to arrest Mehraj Malik and present him before the Court on May 14.

“Whereas accused Mehraj Din Malik S/o Shamas Din Malik stands charged with the offence under Section 499 of the Indian Penal Code. You are hereby directed to arrest the said accused and to produce him before me on 17-05-2025,”

-the Court mentioned in its order dated March 17.

This case started during the District Development Council (DDC) elections in Doda when Mehraj Malik allegedly made defamatory and threatening statements against Ghulam Mohammad Saroori.

Saroori filed a complaint under Section 499 of the Indian Penal Code, stating that Malik had used “filthy, malicious and defamatory language” against him. He alleged that video clips containing these statements were widely shared on social media.

The Court first took note of this case on June 4, 2024. It then issued summons to Mehraj Malik and instructed him to appear before the Court on July 20, 2024.

However, Malik did not appear before the Court as directed. Because of this, the Court later decided to issue a non-bailable warrant against him on March 17.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for May 14.

The Court will check whether the police have executed the warrant and arrested Malik.
