[Mumbai Hit-and-Run Case] Main Accused Mihir Shah Consumed Excessive Alcohol

Today, On 11th July, In the Mumbai hit-and-run case, the main accused, Mihir Shah, reportedly consumed excessive alcohol before the incident. This detail has come to light during the ongoing investigation. The severity of Shah’s intoxication is a key factor in the case.

Mumbai: The primary suspect in the Worli hit-and-run case, Mihir Shah, consumed a substantial amount of alcohol at two separate locations on the night of the incident, according to Mumbai police sources on July 11.

The police revealed that,

“During the investigation, it was discovered that Mihir Shah, the arrested suspect, had consumed alcohol prior to the incidents at two different places on the night of the incident.”

According to the police,

“The investigation revealed that after consuming alcohol at Vice Global Tapas Bar in Juhu, Mihir Shah then drank at another location between Malad and Borivali.”

The police stated,

“Interrogation with Rajrishi Rajendra Singh Bidawat, the accused driver, also indicated that they had visited Marine Drive since the incident occurred on a Sunday,”

The police further explained that the driver, Rajrishi Rajendra Singh, had driven the car from Borivali to Marine Drive. However, upon arrival, Mihir Shah forcibly took the car keys from him to drive near Girgaon Chowpatty.

Earlier that day, both suspects in the Worli hit-and-run case reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime and are now in the custody of the Mumbai police.

Police sources stated,

“During interrogation, the main accused, Mihir Shah, and his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, both admitted to their roles in the incident. The police conducted a scene recreation from CJ House Worli to Sea Link Worli, mirroring the sequence of events from the night of the accident.”

On Wednesday, a Mumbai court remanded Mihir Shah to police custody until July 16. Shah arrested in Virar on July 9 and brought to Sewri court in Mumbai on July 10. He had been on the run after allegedly hitting a scooter on Dr. Annie Besant Road in Worli on July 7 while driving a car.

Mumbai police formed fourteen teams to apprehend him. They also arrested Rajrishi Singh Bidawat and Mihir’s father, Rajesh Shah, for their alleged involvement in the case.

Following the tragic incident, the deceased woman’s husband, Pradeep Nakhwa, questioned the delay in the arrest of the accused. He claimed that his wife was dragged from Ceejay House to Sea Link Road and attributed the delay to political reasons.

Nakhwa alleged,

“It was due to ‘politics’ and the accused would not be arrested until the Vidhan Sabha session ends,”

He also suggested that the delay was because the accused the son of a political leader.

The Mumbai police reported that the 45-year-old victim, a resident of Worli Koliwada. She riding pillion on a scooter driven by her husband, who also sustained injuries in the incident.

The police stated,

“The couple was returning home after buying fish when the scooter they were riding was hit by the luxury car. Both of them sustained injuries, and the woman died during treatment,”

They also mentioned that the luxury car belonged to a leader of a political party from Maharashtra’s Palghar.

This incident in Worli occurred less than two months after a similar case in Pune, where a luxury car allegedly driven by a 17-year-old under the influence of alcohol collided with a motorcycle, killing two software engineers in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area on May 19.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his concern over the increasing number of hit-and-run incidents in the state.

He directed the police to take strict action, stating,

“The guilty will not be spared.”

In response to the incident, the Shiv Sena removed Rajesh Shah, the father of the accused, from the party following his arrest.
