Mohali court has acquitted infamous gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and three associates due to lack of evidence. One accused, Sonu, was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison with a fine.

In a major development, a Mohali court has acquitted the infamous gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and three of his associates in an Arms Act case. The trial, which began in 2022 at the Sohana police station, involved five accused individuals: Lawrence Bishnoi, Asim alias Hasham Baba, Deepak, Vikram Singh alias Vicky, and Sonu.
While four accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence, one person, Sonu, was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison along with a fine of Rs 500. If he fails to pay the fine, his jail term will be extended by an additional month.
According to reports, the court found that the police failed to produce sufficient evidence against Lawrence Bishnoi, Asim, Deepak, and Vicky, leading to their acquittal.
Sonu, however, a resident of Meerut, was found guilty based on the testimony of a recovery witness, Sub-Inspector Deepak Singh, who confirmed that weapons and ammunition were recovered from him. His testimony played a key role in proving the charges against Sonu.
During the proceedings, defense lawyer Karan Sofat argued that the case against Bishnoi and others was closed because
“the investigating officer had not completed his testimony.”
The court agreed that
“his partial statement could not be considered valid evidence.”
The government had relied on the statement of Sub-Inspector Deepak Singh, who confirmed the recovery of weapons and ammunition from Sonu.
Following Sonu’s arrest, investigators recorded his statement and then arrested Deepak Pundir, alias Deepu. Later, Vikramjeet Singh was also taken into custody. During interrogation, Lawrence Bishnoi named Asim, alias Hasham Baba.
Despite these developments, Bishnoi, Asim, Deepak, and Vicky were acquitted in the case as the court concluded that “their allegations were not proven.”
