Actor Darshan shocked the court saying, “I can’t live like this anymore. Please, just give me poison,” while describing jail hardships. He remains in custody in the Renukaswamy murder case.

During the monthly hearing of the Renukaswamy murder case, Kannada actor Darshan appeared before the 64th City Civil and Sessions Court, Hall (CCH), through video conference from jail. In the hearing, the actor made serious complaints about the condition of his stay in custody.
Darshan told the judge that he was living in very harsh circumstances inside jail. He said he had not been able to see sunlight for many days. He further added that his hands had developed fungus and his clothes had started smelling.
In desperation, the actor pleaded before the court and said,
“I can’t live like this anymore. Please, just give me poison. Life here has become unbearable.”
Continuing his statement, Darshan said that the situation had become impossible for him to survive. He repeated,
“Please give poison at least to me. I don’t want to continue like this.”
On hearing this, the judge replied firmly,
“Such things cannot be done. That is not possible.”
Darshan was arrested in June 2024 in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga and reportedly a fan of the actor.
According to the police, Renukaswamy had allegedly sent obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda, who is known to be close to Darshan.
Following this, he was abducted, taken to a shed in Bengaluru, and tortured. Later, his body was found dumped in a drain.
The case has gone through several legal turns. Darshan was first granted bail by the Karnataka High Court in December 2024. However, on August 14, 2025, the Supreme Court cancelled the bail.
The top court noted serious concerns over possible witness tampering and ordered that the actor should not be given any special treatment in custody. After this order, Darshan was re-arrested and continues to remain in judicial custody.
At the latest hearing, the court also took up discharge petitions filed by accused numbers 13 and 14 in the case. It has now fixed September 19 as the date for framing charges against the accused persons.

Along with this, Darshan had also placed a request before the court asking not to be transferred to Ballari prison.
He had further sought basic facilities like a bed and mattress. These applications will now be heard separately by the court at 3 pm.
