A petition has been filed seeking an FIR against former Uttar Pradesh Minister Swami Prasad Maurya and Sambhal MLA Iqbal Mahmood for allegedly making derogatory remarks, claiming, “Kanwar pilgrimage has more goons and thugs than Shiva devotees.”

A petition submitted to a local court requesting the initiation of a case against former Uttar Pradesh minister Swami Prasad Maurya and Sambhal MLA Iqbal Mahmood for their alleged derogatory comments about ‘kanwariyas.’

Simran Gupta, the national president of Hindu Shakti Dal, filed the plea in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Senior Division) Aditya Singh, seeking action against the two leaders.

The court has set a hearing date for August 28, as stated by Prasoon Kumar, the petitioner’s attorney.

In comments to media, Gupta mentioned that Maurya recently labeled kanwariyas as “goons and mafias who thrive under state protection,” a statement that he believes has offended millions of Hindus.

Gupta also accused Maurya of previously trying to incite riots with inflammatory remarks about Hindu religious texts and beliefs.

Similarly, Iqbal Mahmood has been criticized for referring to kanwariyas as “goons and thugs.”

Gupta noted that Mahmood allegedly stated during a press conference that “the kanwar pilgrimage has more goons and thugs than Shiva devotees.”

Gupta reported that a complaint was lodged at the Bahjoi police station against both leaders, but no action has been taken thus far.
