The Rouse Avenue Court has given BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj one week to file her response in a defamation case. The case involves allegations made against her, and the court has allowed time for her to present her side. This development is part of ongoing legal proceedings. The court’s decision ensures both sides have an opportunity to be heard fairly.
New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue court granted BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj additional time to submit specific documents in response to a defamation complaint brought against her by AAP leader and former minister Satyendra Jain.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Neha Mittal allowed one week for this purpose and scheduled the next hearing for January 13.
Bansuri Swaraj was represented by her counsel, who requested two weeks to compile the necessary documents. However, the court deemed that two weeks was excessive and instead granted one week.
The complaint against Swaraj involves both criminal and civil defamation cases filed by Jain, who had previously been issued a notice regarding the matter on December 16.
Advocates Rajat Bhardwaj, Mohd. Irshad, and Kaustubh Khanna represented Jain in court. On December 10, the court had addressed the need for pre-summoning evidence to support Jain’s complaint before issuing a notice.
Jain’s defamation suit arises from remarks made by Bansuri Swaraj during a TV interview on October 5, 2023, which he claims were defamatory and intended for political gain. He alleges that Swaraj’s statements, which included claims of recovering Rs 3 crores, 1.8 kg of gold, and 133 gold coins from his residence during an Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid, were false.
Jain further accused Swaraj of labelling him as ‘Corrupt’ and ‘Fraud,’ asserting that these allegations have severely damaged his reputation both professionally and personally. He emphasized that the smear campaign has inflicted significant harm on his character, impacting his roles as a politician, husband, father, brother, and friend.
Bansuri Swaraj is an Indian lawyer and public figure, known for her work in legal and public matters. She is the daughter of Swaraj Kaushal, a well-known Indian politician and lawyer. Bansuri became known for her active role in legal cases, representing clients in important matters.
Bansuri Swaraj, born on January 3, 1984, is the daughter of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. With over 15 years of legal experience, she entered politics in 2024, winning a Lok Sabha seat as a BJP candidate.
