The accused, identified as Hemant, also known as Jeet, had a case registered against him at the Timarpur police station under Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
This law punishes anyone who uses words, gestures, or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
The court clearly stated that the accused had used inappropriate and disrespectful words about the woman.
These words were not just a casual insult but were aimed at tarnishing her dignity by portraying her in a bad light.
The judgment mentioned that the words used were not innocent or general in nature, but had a deeper and more serious meaning, attacking the woman’s personal reputation.
The court noted,
“The words used by the accused were not intended to simply insult the victim, but it meant that she was promiscuous, thereby casting an aspersion on her character.”
This means the accused made remarks that suggested the woman had loose morals, which was a direct attack on her modesty and personal honour.
The case highlights how insulting a woman by questioning her character is taken seriously by the law and the judiciary.
The court’s detailed observations underline the importance of respecting women’s dignity and how using such derogatory words can lead to legal punishment.
Section 509 IPC is specifically designed to protect women from such offences, whether they occur in public, private, or even in digital spaces.
