A complaint has been filed against Sonia Gandhi in a Bihar court over her remarks on the President. The plea alleges that her statement was disrespectful and sought legal action. The court is expected to hear the matter soon. This has created political reactions from various parties.

Muzaffarpur: A complaint has been lodged against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in a Muzaffarpur court, following her remark about President Droupadi Murmu, in which she referred to her as a “poor thing.”
This comment was made in the context of Murmu’s lengthy address, during which Gandhi remarked,
“The President was getting very tired by the end… she could hardly speak, poor thing.”
Rahul Gandhi also described the speech as “boring” in a separate clip, while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was present at the event.
In response, Rashtrapati Bhavan issued a statement labeling Gandhi’s remark as “unacceptable,” asserting that Murmu was not tired and emphasizing that comments undermining the dignity of the presidency are inappropriate.
Sudhir Ojha, a lawyer from Muzaffarpur, filed the complaint seeking the registration of an FIR against Sonia Gandhi for allegedly disrespecting the nation’s highest constitutional authority. Ojha also named Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as co-accused, requesting legal action against them.
Ojha stated to reporters after submitting the complaint to the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court,
“Sonia Gandhi has insulted President Murmu with her ‘poor thing’ comment, which disrespects the highest constitutional authority. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are co-accused in this matter. A case should be filed against them under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),”
The court is set to hear the case on February 10.
This incident arose after the President’s joint address to Parliament prior to the Budget session, during which reporters questioned Gandhi about Murmu’s nearly hour-long speech.
A fresh political storm has ignited after Rashtrapati Bhavan strongly condemned remarks made by senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on President Droupadi Murmu’s address to Parliament, calling them “unfortunate and entirely avoidable”. The statement further asserted that the comments were “in poor taste” and had “hurt the dignity of the high office”.

The controversy began after President Murmu addressed a joint session of Parliament to mark the beginning of the Budget Session. Speaking to reporters afterward, Sonia Gandhi remarked that the President appeared exhausted during her long speech.
“The President was getting very tired by the end. She could hardly speak, poor thing,”
said Mrs. Gandhi, standing beside her children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, both Members of Parliament.
The BJP quickly hit back, calling the comments “derogatory” and demanding an apology.
Following Sonia Gandhi’s remarks, Rashtrapati Bhavan issued an official statement refuting the claims and expressing displeasure over the comments.
