A Delhi court said it has no objection to renewing Arvind Kejriwal’s passport for 10 years. He must still seek court approval before travelling abroad.

New Delhi: Today, on June 4, a Delhi court on Wednesday gave its nod to the renewal of the passport of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for a full period of 10 years.
Kejriwal is currently an accused in the Delhi excise policy scam case, which is being investigated by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for alleged corruption and money laundering.
Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh gave the order after hearing Kejriwal’s request. The court said that it had no problem with the passport being renewed even though Kejriwal is facing serious legal cases.
However, the judge made it clear that Kejriwal would still need to ask for formal permission from the court if he wants to travel outside the country in the future.
The judge said:
“Presently, the applicant is not seeking any permission to travel abroad, obviously as he may not be planning to travel abroad in the immediate near future, but that too cannot come in the way of granting permission to the applicant for renewal of the passport for complete 10 years.”
The court added that even if the passport is valid for 10 years, Kejriwal cannot use it to travel abroad freely without the court’s approval.

The judge explained further that the conditions of Kejriwal’s bail already mention that he cannot leave India without the court’s permission.
The order stated:
“After all the bail conditions already prescribes that the applicant shall not travel abroad without formal permission of court.”
This decision means that Kejriwal can go ahead and apply for a 10-year passport renewal, but he still cannot go out of India unless the court gives him special permission each time.
The court’s order balances Kejriwal’s right to renew his passport with the ongoing investigation in which he is involved.
The Delhi excise policy case involves allegations of irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the 2021–22 liquor policy, which has already led to multiple arrests and investigations.
Kejriwal has been summoned and questioned by central agencies and is currently out on bail with conditions.
The court’s statement and order regarding the passport renewal are part of the legal process ongoing in the corruption and money laundering cases filed against him.
