A court has sought a response from Amboli Police on a cheating and criminal breach of trust complaint filed against actor Kunal Khemu and his father, citing Section 175(3) BNSS and directing the officer to submit a statement.

A court requested a response from the police regarding a complaint filed against Bollywood actor Kunal Khemu and his father, Ravi Khemu, for allegations of cheating and criminal breach of trust.

Judicial First Class Magistrate Sujitkumar C. Tayde, in an order made on December 29, stated that according to section 175 (3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, the input from the relevant police officer must be considered during the inquiry.

Consequently, notice was issued to the officer in charge of the Amboli police station in Andheri, located in the western part of Mumbai, to file a statement on the matter.

Film producer Ravi Durgaprasad Agarwal accused Kunal Khemu and Ravi Khemu of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and intimidation linked to a film project that dates back almost twenty years.

In his complaint, submitted through advocate Vedika Chaubey, Agarwal described a Hindi film titled “Overtake,” for which he approached Kunal Khemu to play the lead role.

The complaint details that after discussions and negotiations, Kunal Khemu agreed to participate in the film.

Following an assurance from both Khemu and his father, Agarwal paid them Rs 21,00,000 as professional fees.

However, the producer claims that after receiving the payment, the duo did not honor their commitment. According to the complaint, they requested additional funds, resulting in substantial business losses.

The father-son team reportedly imposed terms repeatedly and forced him to modify the script.

Agarwal stated,

“Despite these wilful interferences, the complainant tolerated them for the sake of maintaining a cordial relationship and to produce and complete the said film. But, ultimately, the accused refused to work on the said script, despite initially accepting the complainant’s concept.”

Agarwal had previously approached the court in 2014, but the case was dismissed in 2017. He argues that a “fresh cause of action” emerged following failed attempts at resolution and new threats from the accused.

In January 2024, he filed a written complaint at the Amboli police station, but no action has been taken to date.

The producer asserted that he sought the court’s intervention after having exhausted “all the remedies available to him under the law,” except for this complaint. He has requested the court to instruct the police to investigate the matter and register an FIR.
