In the ongoing investigation into corruption allegations against former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai to participate in the probe. Dehadrai, previously associated with Moitra, is scheduled to appear before the CBI’s AC-3 unit at 2 PM on Thursday.
The probe against Moitra was initiated following a reference from the anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal. The allegations, which have been vehemently denied by Moitra, were brought to light by Dehadrai, who accused the former MP of accepting bribes in exchange for raising questions in Parliament. This serious accusation has added a new dimension to the case, highlighting the potential involvement of parliamentary activities in the alleged corruption.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had earlier approached the Lokpal with a complaint against Moitra, intensifying the scrutiny over her actions. In a related development, Moitra faced expulsion from the Lok Sabha last month after the House adopted the report of its Ethics Committee. The committee found her guilty of accepting gifts and illegal gratification from a businessman to further his interests. This expulsion marked a significant turn in Moitra’s political career and has been a subject of considerable debate and legal action.
Moitra has taken legal recourse against her expulsion, challenging the decision in the Supreme Court. Her challenge brings the case into a broader legal context, potentially impacting the interpretation and enforcement of ethics within parliamentary proceedings.
