A Mumbai court has restrained YouTuber CarryMinati, talent manager Deepak Char, and others from sharing defamatory content against filmmaker Karan Johar on social media. The order, passed by PG Bhonsale on February 9, followed a petition filed through Mehta.

MUMBAI: A court in Mumbai has issued an order restraining YouTuber Ajey Nagar, known as CarryMinati, talent manager Deepak Char, and others from disseminating or sharing defamatory content against filmmaker Karan Johar on social media.

This ruling was made by Principal Sessions Judge PG Bhonsale, following a petition lodged by Johar through Apoorva Mehta, the CEO of Dharma Productions, which Johar owns.

Johar alleged that the social media influencers had made slanderous comments about him in their YouTube videos.

His plea asserted,

“The statements are so vulgar and abusive that they immediately need to be taken down.”

Nagar contended that the videos had already been removed, suggesting there was no basis for Johar to bring the matter before the court. In response, Johar argued that, although Nagar had deleted the defamatory videos, they had already reached “millions of people.”

Johar further highlighted that

“unknown persons are making reels of it and again circulating it on social media.”

The court noted that, prima facie, it appeared Nagar and Char had made defamatory remarks and used vulgar language directed at Johar.

The court stated,

“These videos need to be taken down immediately. There should be an injunction against all those who circulate and re-circulate these videos on the social media platform. This is a fit case to pass ad-interim injunction orders against the defendants.”

Consequently, the court temporarily restrained content creators and others, including unnamed John Doe, from publishing or sharing any additional defamatory content against Johar until a final decision on the filmmaker’s application for interim relief is made. It also instructed Meta Platforms to remove the video links associated with the content flagged by Johar.

Advocate PD Gandhy, supported by a team from DSK Legal that includes partners Parag Khandhar, Chandrima Mitra, and associates Anaheeta Verma and Pratyusha Dhodda, represented Johar. Advocates Vikas Khera, Amit Kukreja, and Alpna Mishra defended Nagar and Char, while advocates Rishabh Jaisani and Abhishek Mookherjee, guided by Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, represented Meta.
