Today, On 21st May, A Delhi court framed charges against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh in a sexual harassment case. Singh has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case involves allegations of inappropriate behaviour by Singh.

New Delhi: Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and former wrestling official, appeared in a Delhi court today where charges, formally filed against him in a case involving the sexual harassment of women wrestlers.

The charges include sections of the Indian Penal Code related to sexual harassment, the use of force against women, and criminal intimidation. Brij Bhushan Singh pleaded not guilty to the allegations of sexual harassment and expressed his readiness to face trial, stating that he had not committed any wrongdoing.

Following his plea, the court proceeded to frame the charges and requested Brij Bhushan Singh’s signature on the relevant documents.

Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan Singh, entered a plea of not guilty in a sexual harassment case filed against him by female wrestlers.

The Rouse Avenue Court officially charged Singh under seven sections, but he denies the charges and has requested a trial. Singh submitted a request for the provision of Call Detail Records (CDR) and travel documents relating to his foreign trips as the WFI Chief. His legal representative argued that Singh did not stay in the same hotel as the players during their foreign travels.

The court scheduled the next hearing for June 1 at 2 PM and also asked for a response from the Delhi police.

Singh questioned,

“Why would I confess to a crime I didn’t commit?”

This statement came after Delhi’s Patiala House Court postponed its decision on the cancellation report filed by the Delhi Police in a POCSO case involving a former WFI Chief. The case initiated following a complaint by a young female wrestler. Subsequently, the Delhi Police submitted a cancellation report after the victim withdrew her initial statement.

Singh stated to the media afterward,

“After charges have been framed, it’s up to the Delhi Police to substantiate them. I possess evidence of my innocence. These accusations are baseless. We must adhere to the legal procedure,”

When questioned whether the allegations affected his chances of receiving a poll ticket, Brijbhushan Singh responded, smiling,

“My son has been granted a ticket.”

Brij Bhushan, a BJP MP, denied a ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections due to allegations of sexual harassment made against him by six women wrestlers. These wrestlers staged a prolonged protest against him last year. In his place, the party decided to field his son, Karan Bhushan Singh, as the candidate. A Delhi court, officially charged Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh with sexual harassment of five women wrestlers and also with the crime of outraging the modesty of a woman.
