DELHI: The Delhi court has postponed the hearing of a petition filed by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is accused of sexually harassing female wrestlers. The hearing, which took place at Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi, was adjourned due to the absence of the public prosecutor. The prosecutor’s absence was attributed to health reasons, leading the court to defer the hearing to July 11.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had appeared at the court to request documents related to the restriction on his foreign travel. Previously, the Delhi Police had opposed his petition, arguing that the request for travel documents and call detail records was a pretext for a re-investigation. The police contended that Brij Bhushan is facing charges of sexual harassment, and the charges have already been framed against him.

The absence of the public prosecutor played a significant role in the postponement of the hearing. The court had no choice but to reschedule the hearing to ensure that all parties involved could present their arguments adequately.

The next hearing is now set for July 11.

In the earlier court session, the Delhi Police had firmly opposed Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s petition. They argued that the accused’s request for travel documents and call detail records was merely an attempt to initiate a re-investigation, which should not be allowed. According to the police, Brij Bhushan is already facing charges in a sexual harassment case, and they emphasized that the case should proceed without any unnecessary delays.

The police stated-

“The accused’s request for travel documents and call detail records under the guise of a re-investigation should not be granted.”

They underscored the importance of moving forward with the trial, as the charges against Brij Bhushan have been formally established.

On the other hand, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s legal team argued that the requested documents were crucial for their defense. They claimed that these documents would demonstrate his travel history and the accommodation details of his team abroad, which could potentially impact the case. The lawyers emphasized that access to these records was essential to ensure a fair trial.

The defense argued-

“These documents are necessary to demonstrate his travel history and the accommodation details of his team abroad.”

They believe that the information contained in these documents could provide important context and evidence in favor of Brij Bhushan.

With the hearing now postponed to July 11, both sides will have additional time to prepare their arguments. The court’s decision to defer the hearing underscores the complexity and sensitivity of the case. The upcoming hearing will be crucial in determining the next steps in the legal proceedings.

The court’s initial postponement of the case until July 2 had already highlighted the need for a thorough examination of all arguments presented by both the prosecution and the defense. As the case progresses, the focus remains on ensuring justice for the victims and a fair trial for the accused.
