Today, On 10th July, Mihir Shah, accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, remanded to police custody until July 16. The incident occurred in Worli, south-central Mumbai, where Shah’s BMW reportedly collided with a two-wheeler from behind on Sunday morning.
Mumbai: A Mumbai court, On Wednesday, remanded Mihir Shah, the accused in the BMW hit-and-run case and son of a Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) politician, to police custody for seven days until July 16. Shah apprehended by Mumbai Police last evening following an extensive nearly 72-hour statewide manhunt.
During the hearing, the Mumbai Police described the crime as “cruel and heartless” to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S P Bhosale at the Sewri court. They requested maximum custody for Shah to investigate who assisted his escape and to recover the car’s missing number plate.
The police stated,
“They need to determine if the accused possessed a driving license and to locate the car’s number plate, which Mihir allegedly discarded after the incident.”
In court, Mihir’s counsel argued that both Mihir and the driver had already been questioned by the police, and their phones had been confiscated. The lawyer contended that there were no grounds for seeking Mihir’s custody, but the court disagreed.
Mihir, 24, had been evading the police since the accident on Sunday morning until his arrest in Virar near Mumbai on July 9.
The luxury car driven by Mihir Shah reportedly struck a two-wheeler from behind in the Worli area of south-central Mumbai on Sunday morning, causing the death of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa, who riding pillion, while her husband Pradeep survived with injuries.
After the incident, Mihir fled from the Kala Nagar area in an auto rickshaw, leaving his car and driver behind, and went to his girlfriend’s residence in suburban Goregaon, according to the police.
Police reported that after partying with friends at a bar in the Juhu area, Mihir Shah departed with his driver for South Mumbai in the early morning hours. Around 4:30 am, he was seen driving the BMW car in the Marine Drive area, with his driver Rajrushi Bidawat seated beside him. The vehicle collided with a two-wheeler in Worli, resulting in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa.
Earlier in the day, Mihir’s father, Rajesh Shah, a Shinde Sena leader from the neighbouring Palghar district, dismissed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
A brief notice from Shiv Sena secretary Sanjay More stated that Rajesh Shah had been removed from his position as the party’s deputy leader. The Chief Minister promised stringent action against those responsible for the BMW incident and announced a Rs 10 lakh aid for the victim’s family.
He assured,
“Whoever is guilty will not be spared; strict action will be taken against them,”
He further added,
“We stand by the family of the victim. We will provide legal and financial support to the aggrieved family. We will give them Rs 10 lakh from the CM’s Relief Fund. They are from our family.”

Following the incident, police arrested Rajesh Shah, but he later released on bail. Authorities reported that Mihir’s father, a politician, played a significant role in facilitating his son’s escape and had intended to have the BMW car towed away after the accident.
Rajesh Shah, a political figure from the neighbouring Palghar district, dismissed from his position as Shiv Sena’s deputy leader. A brief notice from Shiv Sena secretary Sanjay More announced that Rajesh Shah had been removed from this role. Despite this, Shah remains a member of the Shiv Sena.
