[Pune Porsche Crash] Blood Samples of Juvenile Swapped with Woman’s: Pune Police Reveals to Court

Today, On 30th May, Pune police revealed that blood samples of a juvenile involved in a Porsche crash were substituted with those of a woman. This swap intended to manipulate the investigation results. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding the integrity of evidence handling by law enforcement. Authorities are now under scrutiny for this misconduct.

Pune: The police alleged that the blood samples of a 17-year-old involved in a fatal Porsche car crash, which resulted in two deaths, replaced with those of a woman in an attempt to show that the teenager was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

The sessions court granted the police’s request and extended the custody of two doctors and a hospital employee who arrested in connection with this case, until June 5.

While the police stated that they aim to identify the woman whose blood used as a replacement, a government source informed, that the blood sample allegedly belonged to the juvenile’s mother.

Dr. Ajay Taware, the former head of the department of forensic medicine at Sassoon hospital, On May 30, 2024, along with Dr. Shrihari Halnor, a medical officer, and Atul Ghatkamble, an employee, produced before the court as their initial custody period ended.

The police seeking their further custody, as they believed that Dr. Halnor, not discarded the juvenile’s blood samples as previously thought, but had instead handed them over to someone. The authorities wanted to recover these samples.

According to a highly placed source in the Maharashtra public health department, familiar with the investigation, the blood samples of the teenager’s mother were used as a replacement in order to shield the minor driver.

On Sunday, a 17-year-old, the son of a prominent builder in Pune, was driving a Porsche when he collided with a motorcycle in the Kalyani Nagar area. The crash claimed the lives of two people. It was revealed that the minor had been drinking at a pub with friends before the incident occurred.

The car, a Porsche, allegedly driven by the boy who police claim was intoxicated at the time of the accident, fatally struck two motorbike-riding IT engineers in Kalyani Nagar early Sunday morning. The Juvenile Justice Board granted the minor bail just hours after the crash.

The police station registered a case against the juvenile driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act, including charges of rash driving and causing death by negligence.

The police have charged the minor with rash and negligent driving and causing harm by endangering life or personal safety under IPC Sections 304A, 279, 337, 338, and 427, along with relevant sections of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Act.
