Today, On 27th May, In Pune, police arrested hospital staff for allegedly tampering with the blood samples of a juvenile involved in a Porsche crash. The incident raised concerns about evidence manipulation in high-profile cases. Authorities are investigating the extent of the tampering and its implications.

Pune: The Pune Police uncovered a concerning incident at the Sassoon General Hospital. According to their investigation, the blood samples of a 17-year-old boy involved in a fatal car accident, intentionally discarded and replaced with samples from another individual.
This alleged act of tampering reportedly carried out at the request of the juvenile’s father, who accused of offering inducements to Dr. Ajay Taware, the head of the hospital’s Forensic Medicine department, to facilitate the substitution of the samples.
On May 19, a fatal car accident occurred in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar in the early hours of the morning. Two IT professionals killed when their motorcycle struck by a speeding Porsche driven by a minor. Police investigations suggest the juvenile driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
During a press conference, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced the arrests of Dr. Taware and Dr. Shrihari Halnor, the chief medical officer, for their alleged roles in manipulating evidence related to the case. Further investigation revealed that the father of the juvenile driver directly contacted Dr. Taware to arrange for the replacement of the driver’s blood samples.
The tragic accident and the subsequent allegations of evidence tampering raised serious concerns about accountability and the administration of justice in this case.
The police took an additional blood sample from the juvenile suspect for a DNA analysis to ensure the accuracy of the forensic evidence. This second blood sample tested at a different hospital. The results showed that the original blood sample collected at Sassoon Hospital had been tampered with, as the DNA profiles did not match between the two reports.
The police are now investigating who’s blood samples used as a replacement for the original sample. They have obtained CCTV footage from Sassoon Hospital as part of the ongoing investigation.
Due to the severity of the alleged manipulation of the evidence, the police added additional charges against the juvenile suspect under sections 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, among others. The juvenile’s father has also been made a co-accused in this case.
The police station registered a case against the juvenile driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act, including charges of rash driving and causing death by negligence.

The police had charged the minor with rash and negligent driving and causing harm by endangering life or personal safety under IPC Sections 304A, 279, 337, 338, and 427, along with relevant sections of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Act.
After the Juvenile Justice Board initially granted the teenager bail and requested an essay on road accidents, public disapproval, led the police to file a review application. Subsequently, the juvenile has been placed in an observation home until June 5.
