BENGALURU: A Special Court in Bengaluru has granted interim anticipatory bail to BJP MLA Y Bharath Shetty regarding a case involving his alleged provocative speech against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat issued the order on Thursday, July 11, directing the Kavoor police of North Sub Division, Mangaluru city, to release Shetty on bail if arrested, upon posting a Rs 1 lakh personal bond with one surety.

Shetty must also cooperate with investigators and appear as required. The court has adjourned the matter to July 16 for the prosecution to file objections regarding the main anticipatory bail plea. Shetty was booked by Mangaluru police on July 10 under Section 353 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, following a complaint by Mangaluru City Corporation councillor Anil Kumar.

Allegedly, during a BJP-organized protest, Shetty remarked that Rahul Gandhi should be slapped for his comments about Hindus in the Lok Sabha.
